MARIAN QUIGLEY

Marian Quigley returned to painting following her retirement from academia and began exhibiting her work in 2009. Her captivating works in acrylics are renowned for incorporating vibrant colour palettes, embracing a minimalist approach, and showcasing intricate hard edge abstraction techniques that mesmerise viewers with their depth and complexity.

My lifelong interest in architecture and design together with regular visits to our glorious city of Melbourne    (I live on Phillip Island) prompted my artistic interpretations of its historic and contemporary buildings, bridges and other landmarks. Apart from the beauty of these structures, I am also inspired by the way in which their angles and curves can frame or link their surroundings - visually as well as physically. Sometimes, as with Eureka Tower, an unusual viewpoint will present itself, enabling the development of a unique and powerful composition. Other structures, such as Seafarers Bridge invite multiple interpretations. Utilising acrylics, my style is characterised by a hard edge technique combined with elements of minimalist abstraction and strong colour/tonal contrasts.
