Artist Residencies Program
Artist in residency
Founded in 2005, this annual international workshop and festival brings together more than 100 artists from around the world each year. Hosted over one to two weeks in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Korea, the program welcomes participants from 24 countries, including professional artists, Fine Art students, and professors from leading global universities.
With a total participation exceeding 150 artists, the workshop creates a vibrant environment for meaningful dialogue, artistic exchange, and collaborative exploration of creative processes. It functions as a dynamic platform for cross-cultural engagement and the ongoing development of contemporary artistic practice.
For more than a decade, curator Pimpisa Tinpalit has played an instrumental role in the initiative through her work with the International Art Workshop in Asia. She has consistently supported the involvement of Australian artists, fostering strong networks and lasting creative connections between artists and institutions across Southeast Asia.
This program promotes cultural exchange through workshops, activities, discussions, collaborations, and demonstrations. Participants engage with different perspectives, traditions, and rich heritage, fostering understanding, appreciation, diversity, and empathy.

Artworks are created across diverse media, including painting, photography, mixed media, performance, and sculpture.
Each Australian artist works closely with 2–5 Thai students in a hands-on, collaborative partnership.
Thai students gain insight into the Australian artists’ influences, techniques, and creative processes while engaging in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.
Students from Poh Chang Academy of Arts and representatives from other Thai universities participate in or observe the workshop, gaining exposure to international artistic practices.
Australian artists engage with Thai artists, lecturers, and professors, immersing themselves in local artistic traditions and contemporary approaches.
The shared studio environment encourages mutual learning, creative experimentation, and the exchange of visual ideas.
The program provides Australian artists with a unique opportunity to explore Thai culture, expand professional networks, and contribute to a rich and sustained intercultural exchange.
