Artist Residencies Program

Artist in residency

This annual international workshop and festival, established in 2005, brings together over 100 artists each year from across the globe. Held over one to two weeks in Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea, the event includes participants from 24 countries—ranging from professional artists to Fine Art students and professors from leading universities around the world.

With over 150 participants in total, the workshop fosters meaningful dialogue, artistic exchange, and collaborative observation of creative processes. It serves as a dynamic platform for cross-cultural engagement and artistic development.

Curator Pimpisa Tinpalit has played a key role in this initiative for over a decade through her work with the International Art Workshop at Poh Chang Academy of Art. She has consistently facilitated the participation of Australian artists, helping to build strong networks and creative connections with artists and institutions throughout Southeast Asia.

This program promotes cultural exchange through workshops, activities, discussions, collaborations, and demonstrations. Participants engage with different perspectives, traditions, and rich heritage, fostering understanding, appreciation, diversity, and empathy.

    • Australian artists are collaborating with Thai and international artists in a dynamic workshop, creating artworks across diverse mediums including painting, photography, mixed media, performance, and sculpture.

    • Each Australian artist will work closely with 2 to 5 Thai students, fostering a hands-on, collaborative exchange. This interaction allows Thai students to gain insight into the influences, techniques, and creative processes of the Australian artists, while engaging in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.

    • Students from Poh Chang Academy of Arts, along with representatives from other Thai universities, participate in or observe the workshop—benefiting from the opportunity to interact with international artists and witness a range of artistic practices in action.

    • Throughout the workshop, Australian artists also engage with Thai artists, lecturers, and professors, immersing themselves in local artistic approaches and traditions. The shared environment encourages the exchange of visual ideas, inspiring new perspectives through mutual observation and collaboration.

    • This event offers Australian artists a unique opportunity to explore Thai culture, expand their networks, and share their own knowledge and artistic viewpoints—contributing to a rich, creative exchange between cultures.
