Born in 1947 in Isesaki, Japan, Shin began his artistic career in his family’s textile tradition before working as a freelance illustrator and printmaker in Tokyo. He moved to Australia in 1983, establishing a printmakers’ gallery in Sydney, and now lives between Brisbane and Fukuoka.

Working across printmaking, painting, and ceramics, Shin blends contemporary themes with traditional Japanese motifs and techniques. His recent work revisits the writings of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, using these narratives to explore enduring ideas of fate, memory, and the complexities of human experience.
