Julie Sorin is a ceramic artist working in Naarm/Melbourne. Working intuitively with clay to create imperfect but harmonious pieces.
This body of work uses the organic properties of clay to tell a personal story. Reminiscing on time spent reconnecting with a part of my heritage, my mother's family in Isan and Northern Thailand. A day riding on the back of my cousin's motorbike, up along misty mountains. Sitting by the mouth of a cave in the quiet, weeks spent in monasteries alongside my mother. Oftentimes feeling like an outsider and partially ashamed, as I stumbled through conversations with my broken Thai. Seeking to find peace within this discomfort. I revisit this time, using clay as a physical expression to represent these memories and hope to create a sentimental journey through each flawed vessel.”
