THE RED MASS

The Red Mass represents the journey of a secular artist through a religiously (anti-art) tainted judicial experience. Betrayal, protest, corrupted power, wounded truth and healing are all expressed in this Kafka-esque alternate reality where real events become merged with the surreal and extraordinary.

If there is an intended message it is to never stop questioning authority and seek the truth. Institutions we believe and trust to be conventionally structured (until we are exposed to them), are anything but and, conduct themselves more strangely in reality than anything we can imagine.

Overall the experience inteded for this presentation is to allow the viewer to experience their own thoughts and speculations, to emerge with questions, to peak curiosity, to ask why?

Lee-Anne Raymond is a Surrealist painter in oils on canvas, working out of Melbourne (Naarm) since 1988. The artist takes the viewer into exceptional, impossible, fractured versions of reality where they, the viewer, are at the centre.  Ideas are formed from experience, from dream, or from an existential humanist and feminist objection. Sometimes the work is simply surreal. Since the mid 1980s the artist has held multiple solo exhibitions, has participated in numerous selected group exhibitions, has exhibited with artist collectives and in artist run galleries.
