The Music of Chronic Pain
In my forties I started to develop body pain and fatigue (due to scoliosis of the spine). That was the start of a lifelong battle of ever-increasing chronic pain. From a fit, outgoing, active person to someone who was withdrawn and anxious. In my fifties I took part in the three week/full time Barbara Walker Pain Management Program at St. Vincents Hospital, Melbourne. The program provided me with psychological and physical support needed to rebuild my body without the need for drugs. Five years after the program I continue to follow the invaluable advice offered to me. I have learned to pace myself daily, which includes lifestyle changes, exercise, and meditation. My challenge these days is to accept and live within limitations, it is very tough. My exhibition is about chronic pain through my art and to give a voice to the many people who suffer in silence.
