Marcus Encel is a Melbourne based artist, working out of Blender Studios and his Collingwood Dojo. Encel’s work is deeply informed by his Martial Arts practice in which he contemplates the relationship between the body, art, performance and visual language.

As a trained jeweller and sculptor, Encel also utilises street art techniques as he builds texture and tone in his work by layering multiple stencils on an acrylic freehand background.

Inspired by Ukiyo-e (17th-19th Century Japanese art) and traditional Japanese tattoos, Encel blends these various cultural influences with eclectic materials; some applications are precise whilst others are accidental and chaotic, creating a complexity that reflects the urban experience.
