For the eye saw little, the smoke so thick (Dante)

This show features oil paintings and drawings on paper and canvas, made between 2019 and 2022. For the eye saw little, resonates with my interest in the inner landscape and reality. An amalgamation of imagery and references is drawn from my personal history, contemporary culture, folk art, and the ancient world.

Gordon Bennet, Greyson Perry, Judy Watson, Francis Bacon, and Nancy Spero are some artists who influenced my paintings and drawings. Figurative artists that looked and sometimes described their world. My images include narrative and symbolic clues to the rhetorical and critical interests operating. I enjoy hinting at messages I would like viewers to be able to perceive in my works. However, I have a lyrical approach to reality. I am not an illustrative painter. In my images, I disturb the possibility of a literal reading and perceptive complacency with discontinuity and montage.

There is no single central axis: each of my pictures contains multiple pictures. I like to play with perspectives and proportions, fragmenting an image to unhinge the audience's realities and confront them with views of the world. Lines, shapes, details, colours, and narratives prolong the aesthetic experience's sensuality. Thus allowing one to recover a sense of responsibility and authenticity, lost in the everyday.
