Pfister explores the meaning of human existence within an inconceivably complex universe. Drawing inspiration from Benoit Mandelbrot’s theory of the fractal geometry of nature, he embraces the insight that irregularity and complexity, rather than Euclidian simplicity, form the true geometry of the natural world. Heightened visual complexity involves the use of as many elements as possible with the least amount of repetition between those elements. It is the task of the artist to retain order in the system whilst pushing the boundary as far as it will go without collapsing into chaos. Here Pfister's practice is informed by his study of Nietzsche and Jung, whose explorations of the human psyche contend the value of instinct as a guiding force for navigating the vast interplay between chaos and order.

This vision is built upon a foundation of diverse training. Pfister has undertaken academic drawing and painting training, a renaissance drawing apprenticeship, as well as courses in Japanese calligraphy, colour theory and First Nations art. Beyond formal instruction, he has engaged in a deep, self-directed exploration into the science of colour through extensive reading.Mathematical analyses confirm the extraordinary complexity of his work. Fractal dimension measures averaging 1.9D - among the highest recorded in visual art, and Shannon entropy values averaging 7.7 demonstrate that maximal variation has been achieved without losing coherence. This rare equilibrium creates an inexhaustible scope for interpretation, allowing the paintings to mirror the cosmos itself: infinite, yet bound by hidden laws.

For some, the density of detail will overwhelm. For others willing to linger, the works unfold, gradually revealing the most profound and elusive truths of the universe, from the micro to the macro cosmic, and humanity’s place between.
