Penny Smith is a Melbourne based artist, living and working in the leafy north eastern suburbs. In Paintings from life: unfinished business, Penny views the person through chosen moments, highlighting a piece of the body that holds her attention. The work emerges from life, allowing spontaneous moments of form, colour and texture. Penny’s art is created using oil paint and a pallet knife, creating a textural response which allows the paint to become part of the story. Penny works with the human body in naked form, seeing beauty and ultimate vulnerability in all.
