Pippa Makgill is a Melbourne based artist with a practice that spans painting and sculpture. Her work addresses the idea of shifting materiality and the presence of the 'formless' in space. She often applies the concept of 'fluidity' to her work which captures the idea of gesture within static mediums. This work 'Flotsum' is partof a continual investigation into paints potential to weave space and reveal it's materiality.
The interaction of gesture, fluidity, fragmentation, opacity and broken paint disrupts the traditions of figure, ground and form.
This experimental approach let's paint carve out it's own form revealing it's body and edges.
