Scarlette's first collection of paintings is an expression of love and reverence for the human body. Using a unique approach to watercolour, acrylics and gouache, and a biologist's eye, these works take delight in the sublime tragedy of being a living creature, in our human form as it exists in the natural world, and in the absurdity of trying to place our biological selves within social and cultural constructions.
Anatomised human forms show the ways in which our bodies are both vulnerable and powerful, both deeply personal but also universal, and other paradoxes of our physical existence.
