Heart Lines
“Whatever heart you are holding in your hands right now
Give it back to the world
It is not yours to keep and you are not its keeper
What is given
Is given to be shared”

This body of work is the artist’s way of exploring love, death, nature, loss, grief and perception. It stands as a response to the current state of the world, and examines an individual’s place within it. The artist explores deeply personal and political issues through her painting and writing practices as a means of self expression. The opposition of nature and technology, and how it affects our consciousness, relationships and ways of existing feature heavily in this work. As part of this theme, the artist composed some of the accompanying texts in collaboration with GPT-3 Word Generator, from Open AI. By experimenting with different methods of writing, the artist builds on the emotions and motifs present in the paintings which in turn influences the painting process.
Music also plays a significant role in both the creation of the work and in the way the viewer is encouraged to absorb each piece, and the artist has provided specific song suggestions to accompany individual paintings. The viewer is invited to explore their relationships to themselves, each other, and the wider world while contemplating the influences that have lead to their current world views and ways of being. Each work is an emotion felt, put into a physical form and a visual language for topics which the artist struggles to express verbally. The sharper edges of life, pain and the intense unmeasurable depths of grief which cannot be understood intellectually or expressed purely with language, only felt within yourself, your physical body after a life altering loss can be hard to articulate and the reverberating effects can be felt throughout the rest of your life. This very personal series is an attempt to release, share and find connection through shared human experiences.
