ANGIE RUSSI

Exhibition dates. 6 - 17 March , 2024
Opening Reception : Thursday 7 March 2024, 6:00 - 8.30pm

Angie Russi is an accomplished ceramic artist who has lived and worked from her studio in the small town of Rushworth - a small historic gold mining town tucked away in the corner of an iron bark forest located in central Victoria - for the past forty years.

Angie graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor in Fine Arts Ceramics in 1981 and completed a Master’s in Community Cultural Development at VCA in 2006. During this time, Angie developed and honed her professional ceramics practice by using these skills to express her observations of the natural world. She is perhaps best known for her quirky spotted guinea fowl series and her anthropomorphic bird women sculptures, many of which can be found in private homes, gardens, and businesses throughout Australia.

ENCASEMENT

Layer upon layer careful weaving of threads entwine with soft wet, white porcelain.

Wading through the mud, coaxing, massaging enclosing the thought.

An enclosed space an inner world attached but separate.

Swinging, swaying, rocking.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Let go shrug off the old.

let go of the known.

Time and space nurture a spark of something yet unknown.

Trial by fire changes softness to crystalline, opacity to translucence, plasticity to vitrification.

A synergy of a life half lived and a life renewed and changed forever.

A translucent light pouch.

Breathe in Breathe out

Break out

Blink in the light

Wings unfurl
