RAZZLE DAZZLE

This exhibition combines the wondrously kitsch aesthetics of the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and the chaos of cancer, with the ostentatious and bedazzling history of the Soviet Union. Utilizing a punk-luxe aesthetic, I take a multi-modal and experimental approach in presenting cancer as a bodily glitch, while also referencing and critiquing my Soviet heritage.

With these iterations of cancer cells, I intend to create an immersive and consuming space - encouraging the audience to interact with what my culture considers taboo. I aim to disrupt society's boundaries, whilst also giving a dazzling and playful platform for content like disability, illness, and breast cancer. As a result, I argue that my work could be considered as a positive rendition of “cancerous propaganda”.
