Memory Palace

References to place and home often appear in Andrea Hughes’ work through the use of shapes, form, light and shadow. The viewer is invited to enter a world of reminiscences, remembering, happenings and places. 

In this series of paintings, Andrea lets her mind go on a journey of memory and sensation, and her brush follows. Vibrant colours are soothing as they weave enchantment and warmth, bringing us to places where we feel nurtured and enchanted. The paintings allude to wonder and adventure. Calming colours associated with love, kindness, and femininity are deliberate and reminiscent of the surrounding feelings of these places and memories of feeling cared for and nurtured.

Andrea has exhibited widely, both internationally and at home in Australia. Her work is held in both international and national collections. She holds a BA in Fine Arts with Distinction and works as a Gallery Manager for Yarra Sculpture Gallery and an Art Mentor for Arts Access Victoria.
