THE RIDDLE OF THE SPHINX
These works are purely surreal, following Breton's concept of "pure automatism" to the extent that unconscious creation allows (for without conscious thought, artworks may lack aesthetic appeal). However, one piece stands out from the rest. The Riddle of the Sphinx portrays my unique take on the mythical creature from ancient Thebes, known for challenging travelers with perplexing riddles.
Demetrios based in Melbourne, has been immersed in the world of surreal art since 1977. His intricate images explore the realms of bizarre, fantastical, and surrealistic visions. A self-taught artist, he transitioned into creating computer-manipulated photomontages using his own photographic archives in 1999. These digital pieces seamlessly extend the unique iconography that defined his earlier oil paintings.
