FLEETING MOMENTS BY GERARD MAHONEY

Occasionally we experience an amazing scene that we feel compelled to snap and share. Through the internet and social media, we are bombarded with these ‘Fleeting Moments’, and although the photo might be eye-catching and appealing, it never captures the magic of viewing the moment first-hand.
In this show I am attempting to interpret these moments and hopefully do them some aesthetic justice. The piece ‘Wish You Were Here’ welcomes the viewer to step inside and take a seat on the sofa, while ‘A Fish out of Water’ is a frozen quirky moment that cannot be undone. ‘Walking Home’ is the product of numerous necessary adventures during Melbourne’s lockdowns.
Creating the work in this show has been a welcome distraction from reality and a joyous exercise in exploring photos of captured moments, some of which have been taken by myself, family and friends.
I hope you enjoy viewing my ‘Fleeting Moments’.
