Opening Reception : Wed 7 JAN 2026, 6:00 - 8:30pm
Korean artist Jayi KIM delves deeply into the theme of “rest and relaxation,” drawing from her own lived experiences and emotional states. Her ongoing body of work expands this personal exploration into a broader artistic inquiry, using installation, sculpture, and mixed-media forms to examine how individuals seek moments of pause within the pressures of contemporary life.
Through immersive installation art, KIM transforms everyday gestures of rest—such as lying down, breathing, or drifting into a daydream—into spatial experiences that invite viewers to slow down and become aware of their own bodies and inner rhythms. Soft materials, subtle lighting, and meditative soundscapes often characterize her environments, offering audiences a temporary refuge within the exhibition space.
Continuously evolving her “rest and relaxation project,” KIM experiments with new methods of expression, from interactive installations that respond to the viewer’s presence to conceptual pieces that question cultural expectations around productivity and self-care. Her practice ultimately proposes rest not merely as a personal need, but as a radical, restorative act within a fast-paced world.
