MOLECULAR ORBITALS

Molecular Orbitals is a collection of acrylic and mixed media pieces. The pieces represent how mobility can be impacted by unforeseen internal and external events. Internally my diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis and, external COVID lockdown rules, and travel bans were two factors that caused limited mobility.

Amoeba like shapes with radiating lines symbolise a desire for a return to ease of movement, physical movement such as in everyday tasks, and movements to engage with family and friends. Some of the amoeba contain tribal motifs of my Filipino flag and tattoos (fish, houses, the sun) some contain playful representations of ice cream cones or mosaic tiles as memories of previous travels.

The colour schemes are from the pain scale; green/neutrals is no pain while crimson is unimaginable, unspeakable pain, the colours represent the emotional ups and downs experienced during the time these works were being created. In summary, this collection asks the viewer to reflect on personal experiences of desire for movement and connection with the world around them.

Jess Silverio is an abstract artist working in acrylics, oil, and mixed media. His work is energetic, sophisticated, and whimsical. He draws on his training as an Interior Designer, to create works that play on colour, form, and unity.

Jess recently moved to Melbourne after 8 years in Sydney and is also a global traveler. He holds an MFA in Healthcare Interior Design and a BFA in Interior Design from the New York School of Interior Design where he completed various art classes ranging from drawing, painting, ceramics, and art history.

Art and design have always been a passion of Jess’ life, His art is how he sees the world around him. “My paintings are fond memories of places I have been, people I have met, or even a casual conversation with an old friend captured on canvas.” Jess’ art conveys a sense of joy, romance, and wellness.
