Nanou’s painting circumscribes absolute abstraction. Her Western background seeks Eastern wisdom. Momentum of continuing brushstrokes refine precise instinctive flows within an expandable colour palette.
Aesthetically each artwork reads as a combination of traditional calligraphy mark- making with contemporary references to graffiti. Her work defies traditional perspective within a coloured maze of movements. Speed and permanence of handmade mark processes and material, relies upon a ‘one shot’ approach.
The concept of this show takes a retrospective turn allowing access to experimental stages of her practice.
