Trevor Ludlow is an artist residing in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Originally from Brisbane, he draws inspiration from suburban landscapes and the divide between high and low culture. Sometimes he ventures into figurative depictions and natural environments.
Trevor is inspired by intense yet simple colours, as well as sharp contrasts, and the desire to find a form of hyper-realism in the mundane. He attempts to distill the emotional responses to familiar environments that people subliminally ignore. His images are often playful and humorous, yet always affectionate.
During the lockdown, a lot of his inspiration was, out of necessity, drawn from sources very close to home, resulting in work that is personal, yet represents a universal experience that most Australians can relate to over the past two years. His unpopulated street-scapes are now a familiar sight to many. More recent works following visits to Yallourn and Queensland have signalled a future expansion beyond the local.
Trevor is largely a self-taught artist, however, his background in film production often gives a cinematic flair to the construction of his images. Trevor continues to sell his works throughout Australia and overseas, and has worked on several commissions following a successful solo exhibition in 2021.
